Booking Porthleven Town Band
 

Many thanks for your interest in booking Porthleven Town Band (PTB) for your event.  Below you will find some useful information to think about when considering a booking and a guide as to how you can make your event a success.

How to get the best from PTB - It’s best to have a clear idea of what you want us to do.

• What is the event – date, times, location?

• Do you want a full concert?

• Is the band accompanying singing or other activities or are additional groups taking part in the same event? How will the time be shared?

• How long do you want the band to play for? With what intervals?

What you’ll need to provide

We (PTB) will need a firm underfoot space of around 9m x 9m though smaller spaces may be accommodated, and smaller ensembles may be available if space availability is an issue. 

We will need an area/room to store the instrument cases.

We will require parking for 20+ cars. We have a large van to transport our percussion which will need to be able to unload close to the playing area.

Light refreshments are always welcome, particularly at intervals as playing is thirsty work! If you would like to provide the band with more substantial refreshments, please do that at the end.

Outdoor engagements

It is useful if the playing area can be sheltered from the wind, lit in the event of low light and thought should always be given in the case of wet or inclement weather.

Timing

Porthleven Town Band is an amateur organisation and most of our players have full-time jobs, so it is often difficult to get the Band together during working hours.  Evenings and weekends can usually be accommodated.

We will require time to set up – at least 30 minutes prior to the playing time.

Charges

You will not have to pay professional rates for our services; however, our performances are always carried out in a professional manner! We provide excellent value for money – a high standard musical performance for a reasonable fee which will be used towards the running of the Band, covering costs including our Musical Director, music, rehearsal facilities and of course instruments, all of which range from £3,900 to £12,000 each (we have 30 senior band instruments and many more for our training band and band builders).  Individual players do not receive payment.

Standard charges are below, and we ask for a deposit of 10% to secure your booking. This will be due when we confirm that your booking has been secured. Deposits may be refunded if the event is cancelled by mutual agreement or if unforeseen circumstances force the band's withdrawal. The balance will be invoiced within 2 working days of the concert, unless agreement is made otherwise with the Band Committee.

Porthleven Town Band is a registered Charity (900529), run entirely by volunteers, none of which are paid for their performances.

An indication to our charges is as follows: -

1 hour Concert

• From £375         

• These events typically last 1 hour. The band would play suitable music from its current repertoire split into sessions not exceeding 1 hour. An additional £50 is charged for each 30 minutes thereafter. If your event requires a march alongside a concert an additional £150 is charged.

2 Hour MD Compered Concert

• From £425         

• These events typically last 2 hours with the band performing two 45-minute sessions including solo items with a break in between. They usually take the form of a staged concert with our musical director leading the band and compering the event.

March - 30 minutes

• From £375 

• Marches typically last for less than 30 minutes with a full band marching to one or more traditional brass band marches or lighter music if preferred. An additional £50 is charged for each 30 minutes thereafter. Please consider the terrain as marching is arduous and needs careful consideration of distance and gradients.
