FAQ's
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM AGES TO JOIN?
You can join from just six years old, and you are never too old to join us, both as an experienced player or as a learner. Our much-loved eldest member is over 90!
HOW CAN I JOIN/GET INVOLVED?
We actually have three bands: Band Builders (our beginner band for new starters of a minimum age of six), Community Brass (our training band), and Porthleven Town Band (our senior band). If you are interested in joining us (or just fancy popping in for a listen), send us a message via social media or email info@porthleventownband.com and we'd be glad to have you for a rehearsal. Alternatively, if you're looking to fundraise for us, help us collect or book us for a gig you can also message us via Facebook or send us an email at info@porthleventownband.com.
WHAT INSTRUMENTS COULD I LEARN TO PLAY IN A BRASS BAND?
There are a range of instruments in a brass band, offering you choice when it comes to learning one. The cornet section is the largest section in a band, including the soprano cornet sat on the end of the back row. We also have horns, baritones and euphoniums sat in the inner circle, with the flugel player generally sat between the cornet and horn section. Outside of that, we have our trombone section and Bb and Eb basses. Last, but not least we have our percussion section which in itself has several different instruments.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT YOU?
We are a registered charity and have lots of expenses to cover, from instrument repair and uniforms, to valve oil and heating in our band room. Our musical tuition is absolutely free which means we are very grateful for your donations and you can see where they go, big or small, over on our 'Donate' section. Head over to our JustGiving page to donate - it's greatly appreciated.
